If you’re looking at Davie real estate, you might wonder what type of things there are to do in Davie in the fall. A visit to the Flamingo Road Nursery should definitely be on your list of things to do for fall fun.
It might seem strange to visit a plant nursery for anything more than buying plants for your home. But, in the case of Flamingo Road Nursery, there’s always something going on.
The Nursery is located at 1655 South Flamingo Road in Davie, and they’re open form 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. Jim Dezell, who has realized his dream of establishing a premiere garden center, is the owner. His Flamingo Road Nursery has won many local awards and the garden center industry has awarded him national recognition. The awards are probably due to the quality of the nursery stock, along with the variety of things they offer.
You’ll love the Beetle Juice at the Juice Bar. It’s a combination of apple, carrot, lemon and beets, thus the name. It’s just one of the fresh-squeezed juices and handcrafted smoothies you can choose from. You can have breakfast or lunch at the Café in air-conditioned comfort or in the garden seating area.
Local farmers contribute to the year-round Farmer’s Market. There’s always an abundance of greens, vegetables, and tropical fruits, depending on the season. If you like fresh bread or Amish jams and jellies, the Country Market is for you. People looking for no-sugar-added products really enjoy the wide selection the Market offers.
You can make your yard a showplace with the variety of plants the Nursery stocks. They even have plant experts that can help with design ideas about the right plants and color combinations that will be eye-catching in any yard.
If you don’t have a green thumb, you don’t need to worry. The Nursery can deliver and install your purchases, along with whatever mulch, rocks or other materials you need to make your yard dreams come true. You can also pick up a houseplant or two while you’re there.
Have you ever wanted an exotic plant to grace your home or yard? Take a look at the bonsai and orchids. Bonsai come in varying sizes and include fruit, flowering, and classic bonsai trees. Not sure if you can care for them? You’ll find all the materials and techniques you need when you talk to one of the Nursery’s experts. And, you can stop by the monthly bonsai workshops to learn how to grow your own bonsai.
Another popular destination is the Butterfly Plant department. Since monarch butterflies live in Florida year-round, many people love to find the right plants to help both caterpillars and butterflies find a home in the yard.
Need a gift or something to brighten up your garden? The Gift shop holds over 5,000 square feet of decorations for the garden. Choosing a wind chime from their stock of 1,000 could be a challenge. Or, you may want to add a gnome, fountain, lighting, or furniture to your garden from their extensive collection.
If you’ve been thinking about adding some large pots to brighten up a small area, you’ll find an affordable collection at the Nursery. The experts in the Pottery Patch can help you find just the right pot, plants and potting soil to help you keep your potted plants alive and well.
If you aren’t chomping at the bit to get over to the Flamingo Road Nursery yet, the Fall Festival just might tempt you.
The Annual Fall Festival runs from September 20 to November 3, 2019. Each week is dedicated to a different aspect of fall gardening.
Besides the weekly focus, your family can enjoy the pumpkin patch, children’s craft and activity area, everything you need for outdoor fall decorations, and more. You can go on hayrides, paint a pumpkin or a pot, and wander the Kiddie Maze.
One other thing to keep in mind is that the Nursery stocks a huge forest of Fraser Firs that arrives before Thanksgiving. You can get a fresh tree for your holiday celebrations.

Why would you want to go from Davie to Las Olas Boulevard? It’s an excellent place to eat, shop, and enjoy close by Fort Lauderdale! East Las Olas Boulevard is just about 13 miles from downtown Davie. It’s right in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, and there are all kinds of things to see and do.
It’s not a long trip to get from Davie to Las Olas Boulevard, and most of it is highway driving. One of the best ways to get there is to take I-595 to I-95 North. Exist at Broward Boulevard heading east, and then turn right onto Andrews Avenue, and left onto East Las Olas Boulevard. The map below shows the way.
Las Olas Boulevard runs approximately 3 miles from there to the ocean at Las Olas Beach. And, you can have a lot of fun along the way. Here’s a closer look at the Boulevard.
The New River was the site where Fort Lauderdale began. The first settler of the area was Frank Stranahan, who ran the ferry across the river. Stagecoaches, people and wagons used the ferry to get from one side of the river to the other.
The river and rich farmlands attracted more settlers, and they incorporated the town in 1911. The name honored the fort that William Lauderdale established close by. Today, another way to get around all the things happening along Las Olas Boulevard is to use the water taxi, which is a lot of fun and will save you some shoe leather.
You can download a map of the area in a PDF file to see a list of preferred businesses, shopping and dining.
If you’re looking for Davie homes for sale, you’ll be glad to know that there is great shopping in Davie near your new home. But, for a change of pace, you’ll love shopping along Las Olas Boulevard.
The Boulevard is host to many women’s clothing boutiques. Looking for a deal on a luxury handbag? Try Andree Dupree Luxury Designer Handbag Consignment. Classic women’s clothes are available at J McLaughlin, and Moda Mario is a premier clothing location. Both stores have clothing for men and women. Girlfriends, Deborah James, American Soul, and the Elecktrik Boutique are there, too.
You’ll also find stores specializing in shoes, books, jewelry, eyewear, and a host of other things that you just may not be able to live without.
What kind of food are you interested in? You’ll find almost anything along the Boulevard. How about Asian, American, Mexican, French, Greek, Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern, or Japanese? You’ll find them on the Boulevard, along with bakeries, ice cream shops, dessert parlors, and many others.
Not sure what to choose? Here are some dining suggestions from the Miami Herald. And, three of the restaurants hit the Eater Miami list of the 11 Hottest Restaurants in Fort Lauderdale for Spring, 2019.
There are hundreds of businesses along Las Olas Boulevard. Here are just some of the things you can do while you’re there:
Visiting Las Olas Boulevard is something you can do over and over again. It’s always different, and you’ll never be able to see everything in one trip. You may find yourself going from Davie to Las Olas Boulevard often!
The Boulevard is another reason why people look for REALTORS® in Broward County. Some people want to live in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Others want a more laid-back lifestyle that is only a short distance from all the things a big city can offer.

Flamingo Gardens’ Garden of Lights: December 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30, starting at 5 p.m. – last admission is at 8 p.m.
The Garden of Lights lets you roam the Arboretum and Wray Home to take in all of the beautiful decorations. You’ll see thousands of lights, decorations and holiday scenes, a musical light show, life-sized interactive snow globes, and more. Tickets just for the Garden of Lights are also available.
Historical Museum: Winter Wonderland now through January 5, 2019, open Tuesday through Saturday except for December 24, 25, 31 and January 1. Times are 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Museum is just full of decorated trees and holiday displays. Celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Admission is free.
Christmas Lights in the Acres: December 22 and 23, and December 26 through 30, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Plantation Baptist Church in Plantation, Florida is holding this light extravaganza. It’s being billed as a CHRISTmas Lights Display. It will be fun for the whole family.
Downtown Countdown New Year’s Eve: December 31, SW 2nd Street and SW5th Avenue, 4:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
If you don’t mind a drive into Fort Lauderdale, you can experience what many people call the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in the South East. There’s a free festival that captivates children and adults. You’ll also find face painting stations, bounce houses, games, and contests. There will be live entertainment and you can even pick up a few line dancing moves with the DJ.
If you can’t stay until midnight, you can still join in the excitement of the countdown to the New Year at 7 p.m. And, of course, there’s another countdown at midnight. Instead of a ball, like the New York celebration, the countdown follows the progress of a larger than life anchor, as a tribute to Fort Lauderdale’s location on the Atlantic Ocean.
Do you love your dog? There are many people in Davie who do. And, luckily enough, there are Davie Florida dog parks all around the area!
This dog park is located in the City of Plantation, just 3.5 miles from the center of Davie. It’s a place where you can meet your friends who are dog lovers themselves, and give both you and your pet some recreation time.
The Park hosts the local Police Force’s Plantation Canine Unit. Three different activity areas on five acres of land give you and your pet a variety of things to do.
One leash-free run area is reserved for large dogs where they can run, play and make friends. There’s another place for smaller dogs, too. The weight limit in that area is 25 pounds or less. You can also visit the exercise area that can help you do some agility training.
The quick 6-mile trip from downtown Davie is all you need to enjoy this newly renovated dog park. It’s a popular place for local dog owners to gather. You’ll find two play areas, designated for small and large dogs. There are benches for owners to relax and watch their dogs run or try the obstacles for them to conquer. The Annual Bow-Wow Ween Costume Contest is held in the Park, too!
Dr. Steven Paul, a local veterinarian, founded this two-acre park. It’s one of the first dog parks in the state, having been completed in the early 1990s. The park is free to use, and dogs of all sizes are welcome. There are public restrooms, and poop bag dispensers in case your forget yours. Your dog can enjoy off-leash areas, an agility area, and water is available.
The Barkham dog park is located in the Markham Park in Sunrise. You will need a pass, which you can purchase at the Markham Park Office. The park has the distinct honor of being voted a Broward Family Favorite for 2018. The Broward Family Life Magazine sponsors the vote every year.
The park covers a three-acre fenced-in are just west of the entrance to Markham Park. There are sections for large dogs and small dogs to play leash-free. For the people, there are asphalt walking or jogging paths, and three shelters. One of the shelters has fountains that provide cool water for the humans, and dogs have their own fountains in some areas.
Another excellent amenity is the dog wash – just in case Fido gets dirty. But, of course, that would never happen, right?
Broward County has a number of parks that aren’t strictly for dogs, but they are dog friendly. You can see a list on the County website.
In addition, Cooper City opened two new dog parks in July of this year. Read more about it at the Sun Sentinel.
You should check the rules for a dog park the first time you visit. Different cities may have different rules. In general, these are the things that you can do to keep dog parks safe for all the two and four-legged visitors:

Halloween in America today is a holiday focused on children and community. If you live in the Davie area, you’ll have many choices of ways to celebrate.
There are many stories about how Halloween came to be. Some people think it relates to witchcraft, but research done by the History Channel doesn’t mention witches.
The most common thinking is that Halloween started in Ireland over 2,000 years ago. The Celts, who lived in what is now Ireland, celebrated a holiday that marked the end of summer, the harvest, and the beginning of the stark winter. Their holiday was held at the end of October, or November 1. A number of other ancient people contributed to what we now call Halloween.
When the Roman Empire conquered most of the territory held by the Celts, they combined two traditional Roman holidays with the one the Celts celebrated. When Christianity came to the Celtic lands, the church made November 2 All Souls’ Day, a day to remember those who had passed away. The holiday was celebrated with bonfires, parades, people dressing in costume, and the poor would beg for food called soul cakes.
Halloween wasn’t a popular holiday when America was first discovered. The conservative pilgrims weren’t likely to have parades and dress in costume. As the Irish immigrated in large numbers to escape the potato famine, they helped to revive Halloween festivities.
For Americans, what is now called Trick or Treating resulted from all this evolution. It became a way for communities to share in the celebration by handing out candy to children dressed in creative costumes.
Davie will celebrate Halloween at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds on October 27, 2018, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Festivities will include:

When you first purchase Davie Fl real estate, you may think that the amenities in Fort Lauderdale are too far away to visit easily. What you’ll find, however, is that you can visit many of the fun things to do in Davie Fl by driving just a few miles into Fort Lauderdale. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is one of those things.
You may be surprised to learn that the Center is just 11 miles from downtown Davie. It’s not much of a trip to visit a theater ranked among the top ten theaters in the world in terms of number of visits. In fact, the Center hosts more than 700 performances a year to over 700,000 patrons.
Here’s what you’ll find at the Center:
Besides all of those things, the Center offers arts-in-education programs that serve more than 150,000 students each year. It is among the largest programs of its kind in the United States.
The Center opened in February, 1991. That opening was the culmination of the efforts throughout the 1980s by government, business, and the private sector. The Center now serves as the foundation for a dynamic cultural district. It was reimagined starting in 2009 and by 2014, the theaters were updated, new dining options were added and all the public areas were refreshed.
Downtown Fort Lauderdale offers a wide variety of restaurants for your dining pleasure before or after you attend an event at the Center. There is a select group of restaurants that participate in the Center’s Preferred Restaurant Program.
Restaurants that participate in the Program offer discounts and offers to patrons of the Center. These partners include some of the best dining in the city, and they are all located within easy reach of the Center. Simply present your ticket for the day’s performance and the offer will be yours. Here are just a few of the partners you can visit:
Have you ever wondered if you had the talent to entertain? You can find out at the Center. Adult programs for individuals 18 and older include things like Comedy Improv, Acting, Singing, and Broadway Dance.
Get your senses ready for the performance you’ve chosen with pre-concert presentation that will give you an overview of the program for each event in the Broward Center Classical Series, the Gold Coast Jazz series and the Symphony of the Americas Series. The presentations are free, but you will need a separate ticket.
The Special Stars program accepts people 16 years and older who have physical or intellectual disabilities. The theater techniques the students learn help them to expand their verbal skills and build self-confidence in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Programs are also available for classes, schools and teens. In addition, your kids may enjoy a day camp or summer theater camp to hone their skills. You can also take advantage of Workshops and Intensives that continue to build skills and confidence.
There are several ways to get involved with the community through the Center.
Finally, if you’re planning an event, consider the unique event spaces that range from cozy gatherings to grand receptions. For example, it’s an extraordinary place to hold a wedding reception, baby showers, and any other wedding-related event. The Center has a professional catering and event staff that will handle all the details and make your even one to remember.
